News from the front

It's official.

The parents took a huge hit tonight in the sleeping wars. The battle was almost lost. Enemy #1 and Enemy #2 pulled out the heavy artillery--the piercing, shrieking cry of Enemy #2 AND the bum-scratching-rash-that-keeps-her-awake-and-smelling-like-stinky-rear-end of Enemy #1.

It was a lengthy battle, one full of tears, yelling, and temper-tantrums--from both the parents and their pint-size enemies. The parents had to fight with limited resources. One of the parent soldiers was MIA because he took the night off and spent it taking care of injured kids at the hospital. That left the cranky, emotional female soldier, and she is currently experiencing a little PTSD. And a little PMS.

We're thinking about calling in back up. If the Super-Nanny isn't available, then we might have to call in the Marines.

Help.

Surrender is always an option...

What time do you want me there tonight? I find that my kids go to bed better for others when we're in bedtime wars! I'm really good back-up! Seriously, let me know!

It doesn't sound like "the book" has come through for you yet!

Uhhhh.... I really don't think any of my advice could help, because if you haven't checked out my blog, it clearly shows you who is victorious.

Where is that darn Sandman when you need him most???

Sorry, we can't offer any advice either. We just have a dog that interrupts our sleep from time to time. I don't suggest trading the kids in for a dog.

I am sooo sorry! This stuff stinks! Bedtime wars are some of the worst in parenting. (Though I still think potty training is the deep trench work!)

It might not help now, but it really does eventually get better. Well, at least easier... (As in, once they are teens and/or on their own, they can deal with the consequences of their late night choices with less effect on the parents... kind of... One of those things you gotta learn to let go of, and let them learn by experience!)

Not that that helps when you still have years (or hopefully, months or weeks) of battles in front of you! Hang in there and try to look at the long-range perspective. This, too, shall pass...
